America’s 250th Anniversary Could Put the 47th President on the Nation’s Currency for the First Time in History.

Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent confirmed on May 28, 2026, that the U.S. Treasury Department has already designed a $250 bill featuring President Donald Trump’s portrait. The design is ready. Printing is ready. The only thing needed is congressional authorization — and legislation to make it happen is already moving through Capitol Hill.

WHAT HAPPENED
During a White House briefing on Thursday, Bessent held up an image of the proposed bill and confirmed the department has been preparing in anticipation of congressional passage. “We’ve created the bill because we have to be prepared,” Bessent said. He described the effort as tied to America’s 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence — the nation’s semiquincentennial celebration in 2026.
The legislation in question was introduced in February 2025 by Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC). Current federal law explicitly prohibits living individuals from appearing on U.S. currency — a statute that has been in place for over a century. Wilson’s bill would amend the Federal Reserve Act and create a specific exception for President Trump in connection with the 250th anniversary.
Bessent went further on Friday, telling Fox Business contributor Larry Kudlow that President Trump “should be on” the $250 bill. He called the proposal entirely appropriate given Trump’s historic presidency during America’s anniversary year, and pushed back against critics calling it self-promotion. “I don’t think there’s anything untoward about having the president of the United States on the 250th anniversary bill,” he said.
If the bill passes, it would mark the first time in American history that a sitting president appeared on official U.S. currency.

WHY THIS MATTERS
The left is calling this vanity. They’re calling it ego. They’re calling it everything except what it actually is: a historic tribute to the man who secured the border, rebuilt America’s economy, and brought American strength back to the world stage during the nation’s 250th year. Abraham Lincoln is on the penny. Washington is on the dollar. Why SHOULDN’T the president who won twice, survived two impeachments, and led America into its 250th year be on the currency?
The mainstream media will spend all week mocking this. Meanwhile, real Americans will be lining up to get their hands on one the moment it’s printed. That gap — between what the media laughs at and what America actually wants — is exactly why they keep losing.

THE BIGGER PICTURE
This isn’t just about a bill. It’s about whether America is willing to celebrate its own history and the leaders who shaped it. Every president on U.S. currency was considered controversial by someone. George Washington didn’t want to be on money. Lincoln’s party was deeply divided. And yet history judged them worthy. The question isn’t whether Trump belongs on the $250 bill — the question is whether Congress has the backbone to make it happen before the anniversary passes.

OUR TAKE
America Learing Center supports this — fully and without apology. Donald Trump is the defining political figure of America’s 250th year. Love him or hate him, that is an undeniable fact. A $250 bill honoring that moment isn’t vanity — it’s history. Congress should pass this bill and get it done before July 4th. America deserves to celebrate big.
